Many of these remote jobs can be performed according to your schedule. You'll still be able to enjoy retirement on your terms. What are these jobs, and where can you find them? Below are some options.

Chat Customer Service Agent

Companies use customer service agents to monitor, support, and respond to their customer’s needs. These agents answer questions online and troubleshoot problems. Most of these interactions are completed online, although some phone conversations may be needed depending on the company.
You must be a proficient typist and have excellent spelling and grammar skills. According to ZipRecruiter, the average hourly wage for a customer service agent is $19.

Proofreading

If you enjoy reading and are great at spelling and grammar, proofreading could be your part-time job. Depending on who you work for, you could be proofreading texts such as academic papers, books, or advertising copy.

In many cases, you choose the assignments, and you’re paid based on word count and turnaround time. Typically, the shorter the deadline, the more you’ll make.

Some companies that hire proofreaders include Polished Paper and Proofreading Pal. You'll need to take an editing test.
According to ZipRecruiter a proofreader earns an hourly average of $28.

Virtual Assistant

Virtual assistants (VAs) provide administrative services to companies and clients. Many small-business owners will use a VA to do several tasks, including:
  • monitoring and managing email
  • bookkeeping
  • managing schedules and calendars
  • handling travel arrangements
  • managing online social media
Start with the internet when looking for a VA job. Since the job is remote, the client can be anywhere in the world. Indeed is a great place to start. Contact local small businesses and offer your services.
According to ZipRecruiter, a VA makes, on average, $24 an hour.

Social Media Manager

A social media manager manages a brand’s presence on social media. You’ll develop and implement strategies, create engaging content, and monitor online conversations. The goal is to maintain a positive brand image

You’ll need to understand social media and some writing skills. Keep in mind that you'll be posing for the company.

Many small businesses need help managing their social media presence, so you can find a handful of clients to work with.

According to ZipRecruiter, a social media manager makes, on average, $31 per hour.

Medical Coder

A medical coder translates information from a patient’s file to codes for billing, insurance claims, and record-keeping purposes. You must be detail-oriented to do this job.

Accurate coding is important as it facilitates smoother processing of insurance claims and assists in the collection and analysis of data for public health research.

There are online courses that teach you to become a certified professional coder (CPC). According to ZipRecruiter, a medical coder, on average, earns $22 per hour.

Online Teaching and Tutoring Jobs

You could be helping minds worldwide from your kitchen table. Online teachers cater to every grade level, including K–12. There are many part-time, or if you’re so inclined, full-time, online teaching jobs available.
An online company that hires teachers is Teachaway. But if you’re not into teaching a class again, go with online tutoring.

Online tutoring lets you choose your schedule. Many companies allow you to set your rate.

Preply is a job board that puts you in touch with students. You’ll see upfront what you’ll earn. Another one where you set your schedule is VIP Kid.

Transcriber

If you’re a fast and accurate typist, transcribing might be your part-time job. You'll be transcribing audio and visual files into written documents. Predominantly, medical and legal industries have used these services in the past, but the times have changed.

Podcasters have their podcasts transcribed so they can post snippets on their social media platforms or blogs. Marketers also use transcriber skills.

Graphic Artist

Whether you’re good at drawing or know how to use the latest digital art programs, you can find remote jobs as a graphic artist. You’ll be designing artwork for logos, posters, websites, and more.

Although you can set your own hourly rate, according to ZipRecruiter, a graphic artist earns, on average, $27 per hour.
