MIDLAND, Texas—On Feb. 20, County Commissioner Raymond King and his daughter Valerie attended Shen Yun’s evening performance at the Wagner Noel Performing Arts Center.
“It was wonderful. The colors, the lights, the music, and the performance overall have been great,” Mr. King stated.
“The training they put in is evident. The work they put into it and the craftsmanship—They’re talented beyond belief.”
The Shen Yun company has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from its worldwide audience since its establishment in 2006. In fact, in the 2024 touring season, these artists are slated to perform in over 200 cities.
As the county commissioner, Mr. King was happy to see the artists make a stop at Midland.
Valerie, too, found the performance very uplifting.
“I really enjoyed it, and I thought it was very inspirational. It’s a beautiful piece of art,” she said.
Referring to Shen Yun’s mission to revive spirituality and bring to the public’s attention the ongoing human rights issues in modern-day China, Mr. King said the performance sent a clear message.
“I like the difference between the spiritualities and the different perspectives from different cultures. Sometimes, we get so shorthorned into what we see and what we do on a daily basis. It’s nice to have a different perspective on things.”
“It’s a culture much older than the United States. It gives us a little bit longer timeline to look at,” he expressed. “You have to see it to understand it.”
