Samuel Zhou, Ph.D., is the Executive Vice President of The Epoch Times, bringing extensive experience in nonprofit media since 2001. In addition to his work in media, he has also held leadership positions in educational institutions.
Dr. Zhou previously worked at the Mathematical Research Center of Bell Labs, and later served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer and Information Science at the University of Pennsylvania and as an Adjunct Professor in both the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rutgers University.
Dr. Zhou also served as the Deputy Director of the Global Internet Freedom Consortium, a leading organization bringing uncensored internet access to millions living in China and under other repressive regimes worldwide.
An expert on China's internet and media issues, Dr. Zhou has testified on related issues before the U.S. Congressional-Executive Commission on China, the U.S. House Committee on International Relations, the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, the U.S. Helsinki Commission, and the European Parliament’s Subcommittee on Human Rights, and has been featured in interviews and reports by international media outlets such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, CNN, ABC World News, CBS World News, Newsweek, Reuters, and Agence France-Presse.
Dr. Zhou earned his undergraduate degree from Tsinghua University in Beijing and a doctorate in computer science from Rutgers University.
